Our Favourite Books

We would like to hear about your favourite books and why they are your favourite.

Mrs Bruderlin

My favourite book when I was a child was 'Pippi Longstocking' - 'Pippi Langstrumpf' in German. Pippi Longstocking was written by Astrid Lindgren.
Pippi is a little child who lives in Villa Villekulla. She has two friends living with her - her monkey Mr Nilsson and her horse who lives on her porch. Tommy and Annika are her next door neighbours and they quickly become friends after Pippi moves into Villa Villekulla.
Pippi makes up all sorts of games and has special powers. She is so strong that she can lift her horse. Pippi is very quirky. She doesn't do anything like 'normal' people. For example, she likes to sleep with her feet on her pillow and wears shoes that are much too big for her. She says that makes it easier to wiggle her toes.
Together, Pippi, Tommy, Annika, Mr Nilsson and her horse have a lot of adventures.

Why did I like it so much? I loved adventure stories and I really liked Pippi and the funny and crazy things she was always up to. I also thought that I would like to have special powers just like Pippi. Watching the movie after reading the books made me want to visit Sweden - that's the country where Pippi lived.

One day, my dad came home and gave me a book to read. It quickly became one of my favourite books. 'The Sea of Adventure' is written by Enid Blyton and features the adventures of Philip, Jack, Dinah, Lucy-Ann and Kiki, Jack's pet parrot. The four children have a special friend - Bill - who is an undercover police detective. Together, they discover and solve mysteries and get in a lot of trouble.

Why did I like it so much? As with Pippi Longstocking I have always loved adventure stories. I particularly liked that Philip was so good with animals as I am a big animal lover. Once I started this book I could hardly put it down because I wanted to know how the story was going to end. I spent many nights with the torch under my blanket and my parents thinking I was sleeping.

Mrs Wilton

One of the books I enjoyed reading when I was younger was The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe. I wondered what it would be like to be shipwrecked all alone on an island. I don't believe I would have been anywhere near as clever or as patient as Robinson Crusoe. This book had some scary parts and some gory parts, which meant I had to sleep with a light on for a few nights afterwards.

  1. My favourite book when I was little was the Goosebumps series by R. L. Stine. I loved how the writer would make things sound really scary. I also thought it was very interesting how the author used mystery to keep me interested through out the whole book. I used to read the stories to my little sister who couldn’t read. I loved to scare her by reading in a scary voice. I always wanted to know what it would be like to go on adventures without my parents. Sometimes I would guess the endings correctly and sometimes I couldn’t and that to me was the most interesting part. I still love the stories and have a huge collection at home.

  2. Hi Year 2 Hope you are having fun reading the blog. One of my favourite books was "Winnie the Pooh" I loved it so much I could recite the whole chapter from memory. It was very funny. Pooh goes to visit his friend Rabbit. He has morning tea, eating lots of bread and honey. Then when he tries to leave he gets stuck in the hole. He has to stay there for a whole week until he gets thin enough to pop out of the hole. While he waited to get thin, Christopher Robin read him stories at the front end of Pooh and Rabbit hung his washing on his back legs - the back end of Pooh. Silly Old Bear!
    HAPPY READING from Mrs Sprainger

  3. One book that I love sharing with students is 'Tikki Tikki Tembo.' I love reading this story to children because they are always amazed that I can remember and say 'Tikki tikki tembo-no sa rembo-chari bari ruchi-pip peri pembo.' It is very hard not to lose your breath while enjoying this book!

  4. One of my favourite books is "Are We There Yet?" by Alison Lester.

This is a book about a family who go on a fantastic camping holiday around Australia. I like this book because it reminds me of all the lovely places in Australia. The pictures are beautiful and show the colours of the Australian rainforests, oceans, deserts and cities.

Have a great holiday from Mrs Golack
